Day One

 Another year has begun, I am determined to make it a 22 caliber year. I plan to do this by going back to my first principles. 

Educate, motivate, protect, and lead with courage. 

Over the past years, I believe I have been making things too complicated. When I have been my most successful is when I have followed these first principles. 

I am going back to day one with my acting where my goal is simply to be the best student of acting there has ever been. By doing this I hope to achieve my remaining acting goals within the next five years. 

I am going back to day one with my speaking and disability advocacy as I have recognised while many people consider me a leader in this area, I know myself that I’m still not the best I can be and I am determined to join my voice to the many brothers and sisters with a disability who are trying to make a difference for our community. 

I am going back to day one with my poetry. I am going to join as many poetry groups as I can and continue to share my poetry widely not for fame but in the hope it will touch people in the community. 

I am going back to day one in terms of community leadership. I will continue to add my voice to the Labor Party in the hopes of creating a fairer nation. 

I will also continue to add my voice to anything that requires virtue to be stood up for if people need to be reminded of prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude. 

I encourage everyone to look at the passing of every new year as an opportunity to go back to day one.



Day One


A new day has begun, signified by the rising of the sun.

It is glorious because anything is possible on day one.

A new start is poetic when it comes to me and my art.

I will strengthen my resolve to deal with my pain;

I will go through any crucible to gain. 


To motivate, educate, protect, and lead,

These are the things I will die for even bleed if I need. 

I will not strive for my name to be remembered; fame is no longer my goal.

I just want to help society as a whole  


Maybe these words will do the trick but they could easily disappear just as quick.

Maybe I will leave the world with the consolations of philosophy

But when it’s all said and done, a new day begins with the rising of the sun.

And we call it day one.

Defend Our NDIS

 Defend our NDIS; people have had enough of cuts and changes to the NDIS. The Every Australian Counts campaign has organised a national day of action and events across Australia to take place on 28th of April.  I have been involved in the NDIS from the initial trial phase through to today. People may remember that I was involved in an advertising campaign spruiking the benefits to come once the scheme was up and running.  ‘You’re in charge! Yes we are, aren’t we!’ For awhile this was the truth for participants like myself. I have been very lucky and received 90 percent of what I need from NDIS.  The question is would I have received the same benefits if I was not a skilled disability advocate?  People with disabilities want the original version of the scheme that was promised without having to fight for a reasonable request. Together Project

This blog post is the third in the series inspired by my reflections on the abuse and neglect suffered by people with disabilities. The Together Project is an art collaboration designed to create a safe place for people to discuss their experiences. For me watching people's creations has made me reflect on my own life experiences. I know statistically between 85 to 90 % of people with disabilities may experience some form of abuse in their lifetime. Until recently I would have said that I do not fit into that category but I am speaking up in this blog to demonstrate that abuse can be severe or subtle. Wisdom Takes Work

 The final book in Ryan Holiday's Stoic Virtues series came out this year. The book Wisdom Takes Work  is a powerful and thought provoking addition to his phenomenal works on Stoicism.  The book's central theme is that wisdom ties together all the other virtues. There is no courage, discipline, or justice without wisdom.  Holiday breaks down the concept of wisdom into five key attributes: knowledge, education, self reflection, truth, and peace.  Knowledge and education covers both traditional schooling and learning as well as self education, the 'school of life' so to speak.  As part of the journey to becoming a wise man, or woman, there must be self reflection so that don't just memorise lessons but internalise and apply them.  Doing this self reflection leads you to look beneath the surface of life leading you to truth and peace.  If you haven't already, read Ryan Holiday's Virtues series:  Courage is Calling , Discipline is Destiny , Righ...
